Many life threatening illnesses can now be treated with such success that a man or woman with invasive cancer or a heart condition can still expect to survive and enjoy a good lifespan. But how valuable are those extra years if money is a problem?
A critical illness plan pays you a cash sum if you are diagnosed with a specified medical condition. There are seven core illnesses which are defined by the Association of British Insurers. These are the most common causes of claim and most products provide cover should you suffer from the following:

Critical Illnesses Covered
If you are diagnosed as having one of the medical conditions covered, undergo one of several surgical operations or become permanently disabled, you will be paid the total sum assured.

Comprehensive Critical Illness Insurance
This provides a lump lump sum payment on diagnosis of a critical illness during the policy term. You can choose the number of years you wish the policy to run. It offers comprehensive cover for the 29 critical illnesses listed.
- The minimum term is 5 years with a maximum terminating age of 65.
- Premiums are guaranteed for 10 years but we may review them after this period.
- This policy is available on a single or joint life basis. The life assured must survive for 14 days after the diagnosis or accident. There are no exclusions under this policy.
- The minimum premium you can pay is £10.00 per month.
Critical Illness with Term Assurance
This provides a lump lump sum payment on diagnosis of a critical illness or on death during the policy term. You can choose the number of years you wish the policy to run. It offers comprehensive cover for the 29 critical illnesses listed.
- The minimum term is 5 years with a maximum terminating age of 65.
- Premiums are guaranteed for 10 years but we may review them after this period.
- This policy is available on a single or joint life basis. There are no exclusions under this policy.
- The minimum premium you can pay is $10.00 per month.
Critical Illness with Mortgage Protection
This provides a lump lump sum payment on diagnosis of a critical illness or on death during the policy term. You can choose the number of years you wish the policy to run, although the term usually ties in with your mortgage contract. It offers comprehensive cover for the 29 critical illnesses listed.
- The minimum term is 5 years with a maximum terminating age of 65.
- Premiums for Critical Mortgage are guaranteed throughout the term of the policy.
- This policy is available on a single or joint life basis. There are no exclusions under this policy.
- The minimum premium you can pay is £10.00 per month.
Whole of Life Critical Illness
This is a whole of life product which provides a lump lump sum payment on diagnosis of a critical illness. It offers comprehensive cover for the 29 critical illnesses listed.
- There is a maximum age at entry of 70.
- Premiums are guaranteed for 10 years but we may review them after this period.
- This policy is available on a single or joint life basis. There are no exclusions under this policy.
- The minimum premium you can pay is £10.00 per month.
